Ice Age Floods National Geologic Trail

Have you ever heard stories about a big flood that happened a long, long time ago? Well, there really was a huge flood that happened thousands of years ago, and it was caused by something called an ice age. An ice age is a time when the Earth gets really cold, and so much ice builds up that it covers a lot of the land.

During this ice age, there were giant ice sheets covering the land where the Pacific Northwest is today. These ice sheets were so heavy that they caused the land to sink down.

When the ice age ended, the ice sheets started to melt and all the water had to go somewhere. So, the water from the melting ice created huge floods that carved out canyons and shaped the landscape we see today. These floods were so powerful that they moved giant boulders and carried rocks for hundreds of miles!

Now, people can follow a special trail called the Ice Age Floods National Geologic Trail to see all the amazing things that were created by these incredible floods. The trail shows us how powerful nature can be, and teaches us about the Earth's history.
