ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Ikat

Ikat is a special way of dyeing fabric that creates cool patterns. It's like coloring outside the lines, but with string and dye!

First, strings are tied tightly around sections of the fabric so that when it gets dyed, those parts won't get colored. Then the fabric is dipped in dye, but only the parts that aren't tied up will get colored.

After the dye has dried, the strings are untied and the fabric is woven together to make a cool design. It's like magic!

Ikat can be used to make all sorts of things, like clothes, bags, and even blankets. It's popular in many different cultures around the world and has been around for a really long time.
