ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Imaging informatics

Imaging informatics is all about taking pictures of your insides (like your bones and organs) and using computers to make sense of those pictures.

Let's say you have a broken bone and your doctor wants to take an X-ray. The X-ray machine takes a picture of your bone and sends it to a computer. The computer then creates a digital image of your bone, which your doctor can look at and study to help figure out how to fix it.

Imaging informatics also involves things like storing those images in a safe place, making sure only the right people can see them, and making the images easier for doctors to use.

It's kind of like taking a picture on your phone, but instead of just interesting things you see outside, it's pictures of the inside of your body! And the computer helps doctors use those pictures to give you the best care possible.
