ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Impulse (dinghy)

Okay kiddo! So, an impulse dinghy is a small boat that you can use to sail or race in the water. It's important to know that when you are in the water, your boat doesn't just move around on its own. It needs something to make it move, like wind or a motor.

Now, when the wind blows, it pushes against the sail on your impulse dinghy. That push is called an "impulse". It's kind of like when someone gives you a little nudge to get you moving in a certain direction. The impulse from the wind is what helps move your sailboat through the water.

But you can't just let the impulse push your boat all over the place. You need to be able to control the boat so that you can steer it in the direction you want to go. That's why you use a rudder. A rudder is like a big fin or flap attached at the back of the boat. You can move it left or right to change the direction your boat is facing.

When you combine the impulse from the wind with your control of the rudder, you can make your impulse dinghy sail wherever you want it to go. It's a challenging and exciting way to enjoy being out on the water!
