In re DoubleClick

In re DoubleClick is a court case that happened in the United States in 2000. It was about DoubleClick, an online advertising company, and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). DoubleClick was doing online advertising, but they were doing it in a way that was not allowed by law. The FTC believed that DoubleClick was collecting too much information about people who visited their websites and was not protecting their personal information. The FTC asked for the court to stop DoubleClick from continuing to do this. The case ended with DoubleClick agreeing not to collect more information or keep people's information longer than necessary.
