In-band control is when we use the same communication channel to talk about how to communicate. Imagine you and your friend want to play a game over the telephone. You can talk to your friend and say "Let's play a game." That's the normal talking. But you also need to talk about how to play the game. This is where in-band control comes in. You might say things like, "When I say 'go,' start counting to ten," or "If you don't understand what I'm saying, say 'repeat.'" This extra talking allows you and your friend to communicate more clearly and play the game better. In-band control is used a lot in technology, like when computers talk to each other or when our phones send text messages. It helps make sure the information is getting to the right place and that everyone understands what's being said.
