ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Independent Democrat

An independent democrat is someone who belongs to a group of people who believe in certain things (like fairness, kindness and equality) but they don't follow a strict set of rules that other democrats might have. It's kind of like being your own boss instead of working for someone else. They still want to help people and make the world a better place, but they don't always agree with one political party. It's like if you and your friends wanted to play a game but you didn't want to follow all the rules the way someone else said to play it. You might decide to make up your own rules or play a little differently, but you still want to have fun and enjoy the game. That's what an independent democrat does when it comes to politics. They want to make things better, but they don't always follow the strict rules of a political party.
