Okay kiddo, so a long long time ago in the year 1763, the British made an agreement with some Indigenous people who lived on a piece of land in what is now Canada. This agreement was called the Treaty of Paris, and it said that the Indigenous people could keep living on their land and they would be protected by the British.
This land was called an Indian Reserve and it was set aside just for the Indigenous people. They got to live on it, and the British promised not to take it away from them. The Indian Reserve was their home, kind of like your room is your special space in your house.
Over time, the rules and promises made to the Indigenous people were not always properly followed by the government, which caused a lot of problems for them. But today, many Indigenous people still live on Indian Reserves and they continue to fight for their rights and their land.
