ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Individual fishing quota

Individual fishing quota is like a special ticket that a fisherman gets to catch a certain amount of fish. Imagine you and your friends want to share a big bag of candies, but your parents want to make sure each of you gets a fair amount. So, they give each of you tickets, and each ticket lets you take a specific number of candies from the bag.

Similarly, individual fishing quotas are given to fishermen to make sure they share the fish in a fair way. Instead of letting everyone catch as many fish as they want, the government decides how much fish can be caught each season. Then, the fishery managers divide that amount into individual quotas, and each fisherman is given a quota that they can catch throughout the season.

It's like a competition, but the fisherman who catches fish within their quota wins. If they catch more fish than their quota, they have to release the extra fish back into the water, or they may face fines, just like if you take too many candies with your ticket, you would have to give some back.

This system helps to regulate the fishing industry, protect fish populations, and make sure everyone gets a fair share of the catch.
