Indo-Caribbean

Indo-Caribbean refers to people who have Indian heritage but were born or raised in the Caribbean islands. Basically, their ancestors came from India to the Caribbean many years ago and now they and their families live there.

Just like how someone might identify as African-American or Mexican-American because of their ancestry, someone with Indo-Caribbean heritage might identify as Indo-Caribbean because of their family history.

Indo-Caribbean people have their own cultural traditions that combine elements of Indian and Caribbean culture. They might speak a language called Caribbean Hindustani, which has blended the Indian language of Hindi with Caribbean influences. They might also celebrate holidays like Diwali or Holi, which are originally from India but have been adapted to Caribbean customs.

Indo-Caribbean people have faced discrimination and challenges in the Caribbean, but they have also made important contributions to the region's culture and economy.
