Induced gamma emission

Okay, so when an atom gets very energized it can give off energy in the form of a gamma ray - these are like tiny little waves of energy that can carry information and can also be used in medical imaging. Induced gamma emission is when an atom gives off gamma rays but only after it has been exposed to energy from another source, like a laser or a radio signal. Basically, it's like the atom is turning energy from outside of itself into gamma rays.
