ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Inequitable conduct

Okay kiddo, so have you ever heard of someone cheating? It's when they do something wrong to gain an advantage. Well, in the grown-up world, there's something called inequitable conduct. It's when someone who is trying to get a patent (a special document that says they invented something) doesn't tell the truth or hides important information from the people who give out patents.

That's not fair because the people giving out the patents need to know all the facts before they decide if someone deserves a patent. Just like in school, you can't cheat on a test and expect to get a good grade. It's important to be honest and do things the right way. So, if someone is caught doing inequitable conduct, they might not get the patent they wanted or they could get in trouble. Always remember to be honest and fair when doing things, even when it's hard.
