When you use your eyes, you can see colors like red, blue, and green. But there are some things you can't see with your eyes, like heat!
Infrared is a type of light that's too low for our eyes to see, but we can feel it as warmth or heat. When something gets hot, it starts to give off infrared light.
Think of it like a hot potato. When you hold a hot potato, it starts to warm up your hand, and you can feel the heat. If you had a special camera that sees infrared light, you could see the potato glowing with warmth!
Now, when planes or missiles fly, they get really hot from their engines and friction with the air around them. This means they also start to give off lots of infrared light!
If someone wanted to find these planes or missiles, they could use a special camera that looks for infrared light- this is called an infrared signature. The camera would be able to "see" the planes or missiles even if they were too far away for us to see with our eyes, and it could track their movements based on their infrared signature.
