ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Inhabited set

Imagine you have a big toy box full of all different kinds of toys. Now, imagine that you are not allowed to play with any of the toys in the box unless they have a certain special quality. That quality is that someone has to have touched that toy at some point. If a toy hasn't been touched by anyone, then you can't play with it.

Now, let's think about a set of numbers. Sets are just groups of things (like our toy box full of toys). An inhabited set is a set of numbers that has at least one number in it. Just like how you can only play with the toys in the box if someone has touched them, you can only use the numbers in an inhabited set.

So, if we have a set of numbers like {1, 2, 3}, that is an inhabited set because it has at least one number in it (in this case, three numbers). But if we had a set like {}, that is not an inhabited set because there are no numbers in it.

In summary, an inhabited set is a set of numbers that has at least one number in it, just like you can only play with toys that have been touched by someone.
