ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Insect cognition

Insects are little creatures like bees, ants, and butterflies. They are really good at doing things like finding food and building homes. Cognition means thinking and learning.

Insect cognition means that these little creatures have the ability to think, learn, and remember things. They can use their senses - like eyes, ears, nose, and touch - to gather information about the world around them.

For example, bees can learn which flowers have the most nectar, and they can remember where those flowers are. Ants can make maps of their environment in their tiny brains and use those maps to find their way to food.

Insects can also solve problems. Some ants can build bridges with their bodies to cross a gap, while others can use tools to get food. Bees can communicate with each other by doing a special dance to tell their friends where the best flowers are.

Overall, insects may be small, but they are really smart and can do many amazing things.
