Internal wave

Hey there kiddo! Do you want to learn about internal waves?

Well, first let’s talk about waves. You know how when you throw a stone into water, you see ripples? That’s a wave!

Okay, now imagine you’re underwater in the ocean. There are waves on the surface, but there are also waves inside the water, and those are called internal waves. Internal waves happen because the ocean is really deep and the water near the bottom is heavier than the water near the surface.

These waves can be really big, like a rollercoaster for fish! They move up and down, creating energy and stirring things up. They can create different densities of water and move things around, like moving a piece of seaweed from deep down up to the surface.

Internal waves are important for a lot of things in the ocean. They help move nutrients around which is important for tiny sea creatures to grow. Scientists study them to understand more about the ocean and how things move around in it.

Next time you swim in the ocean, try to imagine the big waves deep down below and all the exciting things that are happening underwater!
