The International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP) helps protect people from harm caused by the use of radiation. Radiation is a type of energy that is made up of particles or waves and it can come from many sources like the sun or man-made sources like x-ray machines.
The ICRP works by setting guidelines and rules around how we use and come into contact with radiation. They also give advice and recommendations to help us understand how to use radioactive materials safely and protect people from getting hurt by radiation.
The ICRP also looks at research and data to figure out better ways to protect people. So people can work or play in places with radiation coming from those sources, like x-rays, but they know they’ll be safe while they’re there.
