The International Geophysical Year was a big group project that scientists all over the world worked on together! They wanted to learn more about the Earth and how it works, so they made plans to study different things like the weather, the oceans, and even outer space!
Everyone agreed to work together during this special time, which lasted from 1957 to 1958. That meant scientists from different countries shared their ideas and their research with each other!
During this time, they also made some pretty cool discoveries! For example, they found out that there were big cracks in the Earth called "faults" that could cause earthquakes! They also found out that there was a layer of gas high in the sky called the "ozone layer" that helped protect us from the sun.
So, the International Geophysical Year helped scientists learn lots of neat things about the Earth and how it works!
