ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Interpersonal emotion regulation

Interpersonal emotion regulation is a way to help us manage our emotions better when we are around other people. It is like a set of rules to follow that help us stay in control of our emotions, even when we feel frustrated or angry. For example, if someone says something that upsets you, rather than yelling at them, the rule is to take a deep breath and explain how what they said made you feel. This way, you are still expressing your emotions in a safe and healthy way.
