ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Intracranial EEG

Okay kiddo, when we want to know what's happening in our brains, we can use a special test called an EEG. This test helps doctors see the electrical activity in our brains, kind of like when you see sparks when you touch a doorknob after rubbing your feet on the carpet.

Now, an intracranial EEG is when doctors want to get even more specific and look at the electrical activity in a specific part of the brain. They do this by placing special wires called electrodes inside the brain.

Don't worry, they make sure you're asleep and have medicine to make sure it doesn't hurt. Just like how you might get a shot at the doctor's office and not really feel it. The electrodes are put in through small holes in the skull and then the wires are connected to a computer.

The doctors can then see the electrical activity and movements in the brain in real time on the computer. This helps them figure out where certain things are happening in the brain and if there are any problems like seizures or tumors.

Overall, intracranial EEGs are a special test that doctors use to look inside the brain and get a close-up look at what's going on. Cool, huh?
