Inuit music

Inuit music is the traditional music of the Inuit people, who are the indigenous people of the Arctic regions of Canada, Alaska, and Greenland. Just like how you have games and songs that are special to your family and friends, Inuit music is special to the Inuit people.

Inuit music is often made using various instruments and sounds found in nature. One popular instrument is the drum, which is made from a wooden frame covered with a seal skin. When the drum is hit with a stick, it makes a deep and resonant sound. It is kind of like when you play drums on pots and pans in the kitchen, but the Inuit drum sounds much better!

Another interesting instrument the Inuit people use is called the jaw harp. It is a small metal instrument that you hold up to your mouth and pluck with your finger. It makes a twangy sound, kind of like a toy guitar, and can be a lot of fun to play.

The Inuit people also like to use their voices to make music. Sometimes, they sing songs that have been passed down through generations. These songs often tell stories about their history, their environment, and their experiences living in the Arctic. Can you imagine singing a song about your adventures playing outside in the snow?

One special type of Inuit music is throat singing. It is a unique and captivating style of singing where two people take turns making funny and interesting sounds with their throats. They make all sorts of silly and funny noises by using their voices in a special way. It is sort of like a game of making funny voices or imitating animal sounds.

Inuit music has a strong connection to the natural world and the environment where the Inuit people live. Since they live in such a cold and snowy place, their music often reflects the sounds and rhythms of nature, like the howling wind, crackling ice, or the call of animals.

Many Inuit people still enjoy making and listening to their traditional music today. It is an important way for them to celebrate their culture and share their stories and experiences. Just like how you enjoy playing with your toys and singing your favorite songs, the Inuit people take joy in their music, too.
