Inverse square potential

Inverse square potential is used to describe the force of gravity between two things. It means that the force gets weaker as the distance between the two things gets bigger. Imagine two balloons: if you pull one balloon closer to the other, the two balloons will be pulled together very strongly. But, if you move the balloon away, it will feel like the force between them is getting weaker and weaker, like if there were an invisible rope connecting them. That's what it means when we say there is an inverse square potential!
