Ion-propelled aircraft

Ion-propelled aircraft use a special type of engine called an ion engine to fly. Normally, aircraft engines use fuel, like gasoline or jet fuel, that is burned in order to create energy to make the airplane move. But ion engines do not use fuel like other engines do. Instead, they use electricity to create a stream of ions (tiny particles) which are then used to push the engine and make it move forward. This type of engine uses very little power and is a lot more efficient than traditional engines, meaning it can fly for a lot longer without needing to refuel.
