ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Isolated ground

Okay kiddo, let’s talk about isolated grounds!

Imagine you have some toys that need to be plugged into the wall to work properly. When you plug them in, they get electricity from the wall to make them move or make noise.

But sometimes, the electricity that comes from the wall can be really messy and noisy. Just like when you try to play with your toys in a room full of other kids making lots of noise, it can be hard to concentrate and do what you want to do.

So, you might want to plug your toys into a special wall socket called an isolated ground socket. This socket is different because it has an extra wire that runs from the socket to the outside world. This extra wire is like a separate road just for the electricity to travel on, so it doesn’t get all messy and noisy like when it shares a road with other electricity.

Just like when you go to a quiet room to read a book or do a puzzle, your toys can use the isolated ground socket to get clean and quiet electricity, and work even better than before!
