ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Electrical grounding

Electrical grounding is like making sure you're touching the ground with your feet when you're playing. Just like how you need to be touching the ground to stay safe from getting hurt, electrical devices need to be touching the ground too in order to stay safe from getting damaged or causing a fire.

When we use electrical devices, they are powered by electricity flowing through something called a wire. Sometimes, if there's too much electricity flowing and the device isn't properly grounded, it can create a dangerous situation. That's why we have something called an electrical grounding system.

An electrical grounding system works by connecting a special wire called a ground wire to the device (like a TV or a computer) and the ground in the building (like a metal rod stuck into the ground). The ground wire helps any extra electricity to flow safely into the ground instead of building up inside the device and causing a fire or damaging the device.

So remember, just like how you need to stay grounded when you're playing, electrical devices need to stay grounded too to stay safe and stay away from danger!
