ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Telluric current

Telluric currents are electrical currents that flow through the ground from the Earth's atmosphere! They happen because the Earth's atmosphere creates an electrical charge - just like rubbing a balloon on something creates 'static electricity' - and this charge moves from the atmosphere down through the ground. The electrical charge itself is too weak for us to feel, but if it moves through long distances it can cause telluric currents to form.
