The Israeli–Palestinian conflict is an ongoing conflict between people in the area known as Palestine (which includes both Israelis and Palestinians) and the state of Israel. It has been happening since the late 1940s and has had many ups and downs since then. Basically, both sides want to control the same land, but they cannot agree on how it should be divided up. Israelis want to keep some of the land for themselves, while Palestinians want the same land for themselves and their own state. This has caused a lot of fighting, both physical and political, and neither side has been willing to compromise. The United Nations has tried to help work out a solution, but so far the situation remains the same.
