ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Jain flag

Okay kiddo, so you know how people have flags to represent different things they believe in or stand for? Like the American flag represents the United States and the values they believe in. Well, the Jain flag is another type of flag that represents a religion called Jainism.

Jainism is a religion that started in India a really, really long time ago (about 500 BCE). The people who follow this religion believe in being kind to all living things and living a peaceful life. They also believe in not hurting any living beings, even the tiniest bugs! That's why they are vegetarian or vegan.

Now, onto the flag. The flag has five colors: red, white, green, yellow, and blue. Each color represents something important in Jainism:

- Red represents Ahimsa, which means non-violence and not hurting any living beings.
- White represents Sathya, meaning truthfulness and being honest.
- Green represents Samyak Darshan, meaning having the right beliefs and understanding things in a clear way.
- Yellow represents Samyak Jnana, meaning having the right knowledge and wisdom.
- Blue represents Samyak Charitra, meaning having a good character and behaving in a positive way.

So when Jains see the flag, they are reminded of these important values that they follow in their religion. Pretty cool, huh?
