Hey kiddo, do you know what an urban legend is? It's like a story that people tell each other that might not be true, but it's still kind of scary or interesting. And in Japan, they have some really cool urban legends!
One of them is called Kuchisake-Onna, which means "Slit-Mouthed Woman." The legend goes that there was a woman who was very beautiful, but she was also very vain. One day, her husband accused her of cheating on him, and in a fit of rage, he cut her mouth from ear to ear. She died from her injuries, but her ghost went on to haunt people.
The legend says that if you're walking alone at night, you might see a woman with long hair and a surgical mask over her face. She'll stop you and ask if you think she's pretty. If you say yes, she'll take off her mask to reveal her slit mouth and ask you again. If you answer no, she'll kill you. But if you say yes again, she'll slit your mouth just like hers and make you like her.
Another legend is about Hanako-san, or "Toilet Ghost." The story goes that there was a little girl named Hanako who died during World War II. Now, she haunts the girls' bathroom in schools. If you go into the stall she haunts and call out her name three times, she'll answer you. Some people say that she'll even grab your legs and drag you into the toilet, but others say that she's actually a friendly ghost who just wants to talk.
There are so many Japanese urban legends, and they're all super interesting and creepy! But remember, they're just stories, so there's no need to be too scared.
