ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Japonisme

Japonisme is when people in Europe, a long time ago, became very interested in Japanese art and culture. They loved how different it was from their own art and culture. They started collecting things that were made in Japan, like beautiful prints and pretty porcelain cups. They even started creating art that was inspired by Japanese art, like paintings of Japanese gardens or people wearing kimonos. It was like a big wave of love for everything Japanese!
