Jay Forrester

Jay Forrester was an American engineer who developed computer models for analyzing complex systems. He is most famous for creating the first computer system in the 1950s called the Whirlwind Computer. The Whirlwind was the first computer used for real-time flight simulation and radar tracking. This allowed better understanding of the behavior of military aircrafts and responding to enemy movements. Jay Forrester's work was the basis of the field of system dynamics, which looks at how different parts of a system interact with each other to produce emergent behavior. System dynamics is used to study many different types of problems including economics, urban planning, climate change, and environmental sustainability.
