ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Jean Stas

Jean Stas was a man who lived a long time ago, in the 19th century. He liked to experiment with different things, like chemistry and electricity. He was very curious and wanted to learn as much as he could about how the world worked.

One day, Jean Stas did an experiment with a chemical called arsenic. He wanted to see how much arsenic was in a sample of a mineral called sepia. To do this, he had to be very careful and do things in a certain way.

First, he mixed the sample with another chemical and heated it up. Then he added another chemical and let it sit for a while. After that, he filtered it and mixed it with some more stuff. He did all of these steps very carefully and wrote down everything he did.

In the end, Jean Stas was able to figure out exactly how much arsenic was in the sample of sepia. This was a very important discovery because it helped people understand how to measure things more accurately.

Jean Stas was a really smart and curious person who helped us learn more about the world. Even though he lived a long time ago, we still remember him and his important discoveries today.
