ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Jephthah's daughter

Okay kiddo, so a long time ago in a land far away, there was a man named Jephthah who made a promise to God that if he won a big battle, he would sacrifice the first person who came out of his house to greet him.

Well, Jephthah won the battle and he was very happy. But when he returned home, his daughter was the first person to come out of the house to greet him. Jephthah was very sad because he didn't want to sacrifice his daughter, but he felt like he had made a promise to God and had to keep it.

Jephthah's daughter was also very sad, but she said she would accept her fate because it was her father's promise to God. So she asked for some time to go into the wilderness and cry with her friends.

After that, Jephthah's daughter returned to her father and he did something very brave. He didn't sacrifice his daughter, but instead he offered up a sacrifice of gratitude to God.

So in the end, Jephthah kept his promise to God by offering a sacrifice, but he didn't sacrifice his daughter. It was a difficult situation for both Jephthah and his daughter, but they both showed great courage and faith in their beliefs.
