Jet noise is the loud sound that comes out of a big airplane when it takes off or lands. Just like when you blow air out of your mouth forcefully, the airplane engines make a lot of air rush out very quickly. This creates a lot of noise because air hitting against other air makes sound waves.
The louder the noise, the higher the volume of air that is coming out of the engines. This is why when you stand close to a jet taking off, it can be very loud and maybe even hurt your ears.
To make it less noisy, airplane designers have come up with ways to muffle the sound by putting special parts in the engine, such as mufflers and silencers. They also try to make the planes fly higher and farther from populated areas to reduce the noise.
So, jet noise is just the sound made by powerful airplane engines pushing out lots of air when taking off and landing, but smart airplane design can help to make it less loud.
