John Langley was an American inventor, scientist, and engineer. He is best known for his invention of the airplane. He worked on the project called the "Wright Brothers Flyer" with two other people, Wilbur and Orville Wright. Together they made a plane that could fly, which was a huge achievement because before then, no one had made one that could do that. Langley helped the Wright Brothers to make the airplane a reality. He also experimented with new materials and ideas to make the plane faster and better. He wanted to understand how air moved and to use this knowledge to make planes fly higher and faster. John Langley did amazing things in his life and his work inspired a lot of other engineers and inventors to make planes even better.
