Nuclear power is like a special type of energy that comes from atoms. All atoms are very, very tiny particles. Inside each atom there is energy. In nuclear power plants, scientists use special machines to unlock the energy from the atoms. They do this by splitting the atoms apart. This splitting releases the energy inside the atom, like undoing a lock on a door. This special energy is used to heat water and turn it into steam. The steam then turns big turbines, which make electricity.
