ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Joint Electronics Type Designation System

Ok kiddo, so the Joint Electronics Type Designation System, or JETDS for short, is like a big code that helps people identify electronics stuff.

Let's say you have a toy robot that has some special parts inside. Each of those parts has its own code, like a secret password. But you can't just make up any code, it has to be from the JETDS list.

The JETDS list has lots of different codes for different types of electronic things, like transistors, resistors, and even whole systems like radios or computer processors.

The codes have different parts that tell you specific things about the electronic thing. For example, the first letter might tell you what type of thing it is, like "R" for resistor or "Q" for transistor. The numbers after that might tell you things like its power or voltage rating, or if it's a special version of the thing.

So basically, the JETDS system helps people communicate and understand what they're talking about when it comes to electronics stuff. It's like a secret code that everyone who works with electronics knows, kind of like a secret club!
