Joseph-Philibert Girault de Prangey was a very smart and talented man who lived a long time ago. He was born in France in 1804, which is a really long time before you were born. Joseph-Philibert Girault de Prangey was really interested in taking pictures, but back then they didn't have cameras like we do now. Instead, he used a special box that he had to put special paper in, and then he would put the box inside another special box that had a tiny little hole in it.
When he put the box with the special paper inside the box with the little hole and pointed it at something, the light would come in through the little hole and make a picture on the paper. This was called a camera obscura, and it was the first way that people were able to take pictures.
Joseph-Philibert Girault de Prangey was really good at using the camera obscura, and he took lots of pictures of different places and things all around the world. He went on a trip to Greece and Turkey and took lots of pictures of buildings and statues and other really cool things that he saw there.
Even though Joseph-Philibert Girault de Prangey's pictures were taken a really long time ago, they are still really important today because they show us what things looked like back then. So, even though he's not alive anymore, we can still learn from the things he left behind.
