Josiah Holbrook

Josiah Holbrook was a man who lived a long time ago and he was very interested in helping people learn things. He thought it would be a good idea to have groups of people get together and learn from each other. Kind of like going to school, but instead of just one person teaching, everyone would teach each other.
So Josiah started something called "Lyceum" groups in the United States. These groups would meet in people's homes or public spaces and they would talk about all kinds of things like history, science, and even poetry. Josiah wanted everyone to be able to learn, not just rich people who could afford to go to fancy schools.
Thanks to Josiah Holbrook, many people who might not have had a chance to learn before were able to get together and share knowledge with each other.
