ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Judicial disqualification

When someone has to make an important decision, like a judge in a court case, they have to be fair and impartial. This means that they can't have any personal interests or biases that might affect their decision. If the judge has a personal interest or bias, it's not fair for them to make the decision.

This is where judicial disqualification comes in. It means that if someone thinks the judge might have a personal interest or bias, they can ask the judge to step aside and not make the decision. This is like asking a friend who really loves ice cream to not pick the flavor, because they might always pick their favorite even if it's not fair to everyone else.

If a judge agrees to step aside, another judge who doesn't have any personal interests or biases will make the decision instead. This helps make sure that everyone gets a fair chance and that decisions are made based on what's right, not just what someone wants.
