Junk (ship)

Junk is a type of ship that was used a long time ago for traveling and trading goods. It has a big sail that is shaped like a triangle and is made from special cloth called canvas. Some junks had more than one sail, which made them go faster. They also had lots of poles and ropes to help control and move the sail.

Junks were built to be able to carry lots of things, like rice, silk, and other goods that people wanted to buy or sell. Some junks were very big and could carry up to 2,000 tons of cargo! They also had a special feature called a watertight compartment that could be filled with water to help balance the ship if it was carrying a heavy load.

Junks were often used by people in China, but they were also used by traders from other parts of the world, like Europe. They were popular because they could hold so much cargo and could sail in shallow waters, which made it easier to travel along rivers and close to the shore.

Today, junks are no longer used for traveling and trading, but you can still see them in some places as tourist attractions or for special events. They are an important part of history and remind us of how people used to travel and trade a long time ago.
