Juramentado

Juramentado is a word that comes from the Philippine language and refers to someone who is sworn in or takes an oath. But sometimes it can also mean something else.

Back when the Philippines were not yet a country on its own, the Spanish colonizers came in and took control of the islands. They brought with them Christianity, and many of the people who lived there converted to the new religion.

However, not everyone liked this new religion, and some people became very angry about it. These angry people would sometimes attack the Spanish soldiers and Christian settlers. They would do this with a long and sharp knife called a kris.

These people who attacked the Spanish and Christians with a kris were called juramentados. They believed that by doing so they would die as martyrs and go to heaven. They were willing to die for their beliefs and would keep attacking until they were killed.

The Spanish colonizers tried to stop the juramentados by building walls and fortresses, but this did not always work. They also tried to convince the juramentados to convert to Christianity, but this often made the situation worse.

Today, the term juramentado is no longer used, but it is still remembered in Philippine history as a time when people were willing to fight for what they believed in, no matter the cost.
