K-factor (marketing)

K-factor is a way to measure the success of a marketing campaign. It looks at how often a person who is exposed to the marketing message (like an advertisement) actually buys the product or service.

To understand k-factor, it helps to think about a game you might play at a carnival. The game might require you to throw a bean bag into a hole in a wall. The first time you throw a bean bag into the hole, you get one point. However, each time someone else watches you play, they have to throw a bean bag too. After they've thrown their bag, they add the points to your score.

K-factor is similar. Every time a person sees or hears a marketing message, they may or may not be interested in buying the product or service. If they are interested in buying, then they add to the score. This score is called k-factor. The higher the k-factor, the more successful the marketing campaign is.
