ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Kamikaze (typhoon)

Okay kiddo, let me explain what a kamikaze typhoon is.

Have you ever seen a really big storm with lots of rain and wind? That's what a typhoon is. And sometimes, these typhoons can be very strong and dangerous.

A kamikaze typhoon is a special kind of typhoon that happened a long time ago in Japan. Do you know what kamikaze means? It means "divine wind" in Japanese.

Back in the olden times, there was a big war between Japan and other countries. Some people who lived in Japan were worried that their enemies might try to attack them by sailing big boats (we call them ships) to their country. But a big typhoon came and destroyed all of those enemy ships.

People started to think that the typhoon was sent by the gods to protect Japan. And so, they called it the kamikaze typhoon.

From then on, whenever Japan was in danger of being attacked by enemies, they would pray to the gods to send another kamikaze typhoon to protect them.

But nowadays, we know that typhoons are not really sent by gods. They are just a natural phenomenon that happens because of changes in the weather. So we don't need to rely on kamikaze typhoons anymore to protect us. We have other ways to keep ourselves safe during a big storm.

I hope that explanation helps, kiddo!
