Kasuri

Kasuri is a type of cloth that is made by weaving together fibers that have been dyed in a special way. It is named after a town in Japan where it was first made a very long time ago. What makes kasuri special is the way the fibers are dyed before they are woven. Instead of dyeing the whole fiber one color, small sections of the fiber are tied off with string or plastic to create a pattern. Then, the tied off sections are dipped into dye, so only the untied sections get colored. This creates a really cool design that looks like little speckles or dots on the cloth. When enough dyed fibers are woven together, you get a beautiful patterned cloth that is unique and colorful. People like to use kasuri cloth for things like clothing or blankets because it is sturdy and very pretty to look at.
