ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Kettenkrad

A kettenkrad is a type of vehicle that was used by the German army during WWII. It's a bit like a small tank with a motorcycle attached to it. The motorcycle bit drives the tracks on the tank bit, so you can ride it over rough terrain.

Now, the motorcycle part at the front is kind of like the bike you might use to ride around your neighbourhood. It has handlebars to steer with and you sit on a seat. However, instead of wheels, there's a track on each side. These tracks are made of metal and are really strong, but they can go over rocks and hills much easier than regular wheels.

The tank bit at the back is where the fuel, engine and other important bits are kept. A driver sits in this part and uses pedals to control things like the speed and turning. It's not the easiest thing to drive because it's a bit like driving a bike and a tank at the same time!

Overall, the kettenkrad was a very clever invention because it could move across difficult terrain, like mountains or muddy fields, and carry equipment and soldiers at the same time. However, it was only used during the war and you wouldn't see one driving around today.
