Khanbaliq

Alright kiddo, so Khanbaliq is a really old city in China that was made by a really important emperor called Kublai Khan. Just like how you like building with your Lego, Kublai Khan wanted to build a really big and beautiful city for his empire. He chose a place that was very important for trade and where a lot of people could come and do business.

Now, the name "Khanbaliq" is actually made up of two words - "khan" which means "ruler" and "baliq" which means "city". So basically, Khanbaliq means "ruler's city". And indeed, Kublai Khan ruled over a very big empire that stretched across Asia, so he wanted to make sure he had a city that was fit for a ruler.

Khanbaliq had really big walls all around it to protect the people who lived inside it. Kind of like how your house has walls to keep bad guys out. Inside the city, there were many different buildings and markets where people could buy and sell things. There were also big palaces and temples where Kublai Khan and his officials lived and worked. The city was really famous for its beautiful architecture and its fountains, gardens, and parks.

Today, the city of Khanbaliq doesn't exist anymore. Over time, it changed its name to Beijing and became the capital of China. But even though the city isn't there anymore, we can still learn a lot about the history of China and the power of Kublai Khan by studying Khanbaliq.
