ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Kiyonori Kikutake

Kiyonori Kikutake was a man who liked to build things that people could use. He was born a long time ago in Japan, and he went to school to learn how to design and build things like houses and buildings. Kikutake was very interested in making buildings that were different from the ones people were used to seeing.

Kikutake was friends with other people who also wanted to make different types of buildings. They made a group called the Metabolists. This group wanted to make buildings that were like living things, that could change and grow just like a person can.

Kikutake designed and built many different things, like a big tower that could be used for many things, and a house that had a roof that looked like it was floating in the air. People liked hearing about the things Kikutake was building, and he became very famous for his designs.

Kikutake liked to use shapes and angles that were different from the norm, and he thought outside the box when it came to designing buildings. His unique ideas made people look at architecture in a new way, and he helped to change the way buildings were made. Kikutake passed away in 2011, but his ideas and designs still inspire people today.
