Kleptoparasitism

Kleptoparasitism is when one animal, let's call it the thief, steals food from another animal's meal. It's like when your brother or sister takes some of your candy without asking, but with animals and their food.

For example, imagine a seagull flying over a beach looking for food. It spots a crab that another bird, let's say a crow, caught and is eating. The seagull swoops down and takes the crab away from the crow, without catching it itself. The seagull has just committed kleptoparasitism!

This happens a lot in the animal world, where certain animals are really good at stealing from others. Some birds, like hawks and eagles, are well-known kleptoparasites. They often steal food from other birds.

So, remember, kleptoparasitism is when one animal steals another animal's food. It's like stealing candy or cookies from your brother or sister, but with animals and their meals.
