ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Koeri

Okay kiddo, have you ever felt the ground shake like when a big truck passes by or when you jump on a trampoline? Well, sometimes the ground shakes really hard and for a longer time, and this can be very dangerous for people and buildings around.

To help keep people safe, some smart scientists in Turkey created something called "koeri" which stands for "Kandilli Observatory and Earthquake Research Institute". They have lots of cool machines and tools that help them detect when an earthquake is about to happen and how strong it will be.

They have sensors that are like little ears on the ground that listen for vibrations and movements. When they detect something, they send a message to a computer to let everyone know there might be an earthquake. They can tell how far away the earthquake is and how strong the shaking will be. This helps people and emergency services get ready to stay safe and help others who might need it.

So, koeri is like a superhero scientist team working to protect us from dangerous earthquakes. Cool, right?
